Budget 2011 : Key Highlights

  • GDP estimated to have grown at 8.6% in 2010-11, and expected to grow at 9% in 2011-12.
  • Exports rose to 29.4 percent during April-January 2011 while imports have recorded a growth of 17.6 per cent.
  • Direct Taxes Code proposed to be effective from April 01, 2012.
  • Income Tax exemption for individual tax payers increased from Rs. 1,60,000 to Rs.1,80,000.
  • Iron ore export duty raised to 20 percent
  • Foreign investors who meet SEBI KYC norms can invest in domestic mutual funds
  • No increase in Service and Excise tax rates.
  • MAT rate increased from 18% to 18.5%
  • Rs 40,000 crore to be raised through disinvestment in 2011-12.
  • Fiscal deficit expected at 5.1 percent of GDP in 2010-11 and at 4.6 percent in 2011-12.
  • Government to allocate 520.5 billion rupees for education sector and 267.6 billion rupees for health sector.
  • Inflation seen at 5%
